Norfolk Island
Well its about time we organised a new trip. Lynne, Glenn, Ashley and Matty are going to Norfolk Island in the first two weeks of September (the start of NF peak season). OK its not a big trip and some may class it as still Aust but its overseas and an international flight.
Trotty, Al and Mel are doing something a little more adventures. Well for MT its back to Canada for a week (drop in on John Howes, not sure if he knows what he is in for again), then to Mexico and Cuba.

Well Norfolk Island didn’t turn out to be the relaxing trip we expected, on the go the whole time thanks to Ando! Lynne, Ashley, Matty and I left on Sat the Sep the 1st we were a bit concerned how Matty would handle the flying but thanks to Col (supplied a lap top) and the cars CD he didn’t have a problem. Ando, Juanita and all the kids meet us at the airport and Ando arranged a CRV for a rental car, local contacts help I give you the drum. Dropped our chattels at the motel in town then out to Ando’s for a fish fry, the only way to cook yourly fish it was bloody beautiful. Matty had fun feeding the pigs that afternoon as Ando has a pen on the other side of the valley from his house block.
The next day Ando and crew (Shane, Snoop, Baby Al, and Wayne) went fishing to cut a long story short, out to 33mile and brought back 70kg of filleted fish. Ando dialled up a group before we hit the wharf to fillet the catch here we meet Grinnell (I think that is how you pronounce it) another of Ando’s mad mates then on to Wendy (Ando’s sister) and Barry’s for a family feast.

The following day Ando organised some tours with Pine Tree tours that he works for, so we did a half day tour of the Rock in the morning (Matty was a hit with the oldies as usual) and Ashley and Matty had a sleep in the arvo dito for the rest of the trip. Glenn & Lynne checked out some of the 72km of roads including a visit to point blackbourne and simons water that nite we checked out the sunset from Mt Pitt (highest point 318m!).

During our stay we were lucky to see the cargo boat being unloaded so on Tuesday morning Ando organised for me to go out on the lighters thanks to the steady hand of Snoop who lowered me into the lighter by a net and got to witness Grinnell doing some actual work unloading the cargo. That afternoon we got in our only game of golf I borrowed Battys clubs and hes driver actually goes straight which is unfortunate if you are relying on a slice, lovely little course, we should go for our golf tour to the rock with our betting club after golf we had nibblies down at Emily Bay.
Wed Ashley had decided that her and dad would go horse riding I think she regretted it later due to a saw rear end unfortunately Shane (another of Ando’s mates) had rang that morning and asked if we would like to go on a boat tour around the island as he dose charters and only had two customers so we missed it. We had a great lunch at Branka house, interesting menu. Ask Lynne about her fun time at the RSL? Then we watch Ando play a game of squash (his opponent must have been at least 14, ya bully Ando) then Ashely, Matty and me had tea together (Lynne missed tea and went to bed early!!).

Today the weather turned bad so Matty got put into child care for the morning so that shopping could be attacked without having to chase him around the stores, the surf shop did a good turn over and Tom has got all X-mas presents in the arvo Lynne and Glenn did a museum in Middlegate, that nite we went to the fish fry however because of the weather it wasn’t held at Puppies point but at a hall in town. We sat out the back with Big Al and Grinnell getting all the good fish and beer, Matty had a ball playing in the water puddles.
Fri we were going to walk the national park however due to the rain we decided against it, we dropped in on Tarni (Ando’s sister) who suggest to visit the Rangers centre as they have an aviary with the Norfolk Island parrot as there are only 30 left in the wild, well when we went to the aviary their was a pair actually out side (sometimes you just get lucky). That afternoon we walked up flagstaff hill and sat with Ando’s dad as on the hill is a seat named for him.

We were to do a Breaky bush walk but due to the weather only the breaky was done once again the cook being Big Al. Ando took us on a tour around the island and got a good shot of a kingfisher, that night we convict by night tour with Ando and Seaworld for tea with the Andersons.

Sunday is footy day where Blue get to play Gold every week, went to see Jack, Ben, Jake and Lockey play. Then to Ando’s for Chris birthday party, Matty is having a ball with all the kids and luvs not having to wear seat belts. Matty got to case a cow around and we watched a plane land which was great as you are only 30m from the runway, Lynne shit herself when a gust of wind nit the plane and headed for us. Off to Darren’s for tea.
Mon we walked the National Park all down hill except for about 800m much to Lynne’s displeasure, once again we were lucky as we got to see another three Norfolk parrots. The walk finishes at Captain Cooks monument where we were meet by Ashley and Matty. That night we did the Wonderland by Night tour which is a walk through the forest being light up as poems are recited, doesn’t sound very interesting but was quiet good.
On tue Ando punished me and put me to work on the house and we roughed in the electrical work for his extension down stairs. We dashed over to Puppys point to watch the sun set as we missed it on the fish fry and a chance to say good by to Grinnlle and Big Al as well as getting in some more of the fish fry.

Well Wed is our last day where we got in our last bit of shopping (more leggo) before dropping off at the airport. The airport is a great wait as you can sit at the pub across the road and go back to the airport as you see the plane land. Well it was a good flight back to Aus where Tom meet as for Chris (brother) birthday in Foster.
